At 3pm, local residents and a tour guide on Koh Naka were alerted by screams for help by the woman, Kim Misuk, 27, who said that she had been stung by a marine animal. The victim was first taken to the Pa Khlok Community clinic for treatment. However, she was later transferred to Phuket International Hospital after doctors at the clinic suspected she had been stung by a stringray.

The victim complained of being in extreme pain while being transferred to the hospital.

She is currently being examined to find out exactly what happened to her.

Local marine experts and a doctor from Phuket International Hospital have stated that the sting could be life threatening if the woman develops an allergic reaction.

The Australian wildlife expert Steve Irwin, also known as the Crocodile Hunter, died on 4 September 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a stingray barb while filming an underwater documentary.
