The proclamation was made official yesterday when the Cabinet endorsed the transfer and promotion of 58 senior Interior Ministry officials throughout the country.

Accordingly Mr Chamroen, who is currently Vice Governor of Nakhon Pathom province, on the outskirts of Bangkok, will take up to the post of Phuket Governor on October 1.

Nisit Jansomwong, who has served as Phuket Governor since October 1 last year, was yesterday confirmed to be transferred to the post of Governor of Nonthaburi province, also on the outskirts of Bangkok, effective October 1.

Mr Chamroen was instrumental in the crackdown on illegal taxi drivers, while offering drivers who wanted to “turn good” to legally join the ranks of registered taxi drivers on the island. (See stories here and here.)
