The inaugural FOBISIA (Federation of British International Schools in Asia) Age Group Swimming Championships, hosted at Shrewsbury International School in Bangkok from January 23–25, saw over 530 athletes from 19 of the region's top athletic schools taking part in 60 different aquatic events.
In a first for the competition, the girls had the opportunity to compete over 800 metres, with some of the boys taking part in a 1500m race.
BISP finished the competition as High Point Average Champions (with the highest score avrage of all swimmers on each team), in addition to the Team Champions 15+ trophy for both boys and girls combined.
The team broke 32 school records, including Namibian international Lushano Lamprecht's breaking four short course records for his national team.
In addition, the team won all 16 races in the 13-14 age group Girls Individual Events category, 14 out of 16 races in the 15 and over Girls Inidividual Events category and 13 out of 16 races for boys over 15.
BISP also won all races in the 15 and over Girls and Boys Relay Event.
“It was a privilege to watch such an amazing team performance with outstanding athletes. Many congratulations to the entire BISP Flying Fish team on their record-breaking achievements,” said BISP Headmaster Mr Neil Richards, who flew up to Bangkok to attend the competition.
