The donation by Karex is to help support the “HARP” campaign – HIV and Aids Related Programme – which is one of the PLU’s Community projects.

Last week about 200 students from the Prince of Songkla University (PSU) campus in Phuket packed 20,000 of the condoms and lubricant into individual packs, reported Ken Miller, Chair of the PLU’s HARP programme.

The packs also carried safe-sex messages in Thai, as well as contact details for the Sabaidee Clinic. (See Facebook page here), he added.

The PLU now has 25 condom boxes in place at most gay venues in Soi Paradise in Patong and one of course at the PSU.

“The only way we will address and defeat this major health issue in the Phuket Community is through the support of the broader communities,” said Mr Miller.

“Thank you to Prince of Songkla University and its students who helped in stuffing over 20,000 condom packets. Through this support, we are beginning to bridge the gap that keeps the LGBT and straight communities from working together and building an understanding that this disease is not just a Gay Disease but one that affects all of Phuket.”

The PLU first announced the launch of its HARP initiative in early October. (See story here.)
