The security guard, Halem Dami, 26, from Songkhla, survived the attack and is receiving treatment at Thalang Hospital.
Lt Thanom Thongpan of the Tha Chatchai Police told The Phuket News that he was notified of the incident at 8pm.
“An officer on patrol on the Naiyang beachfront called in that a man covered in blood had run up to him appealing for help,” Lt Thanom said.
“The injured man had a serious slash wound to his throat and other cuts on his face.”
The victim, Mr Halem, later told police that he was on duty in front of the hotel where he worked when another guard from the same security company walked past and said: “What are you looking at?”
Mr Halem said the other security guard then attacked him.
“We got into a fight and he pulled out a knife. He tried to stab me many times before he cut my throat,” Mr Halem told police.
Mr Halem gave police the name and a description of his assailant. Apparently the two used to be friends, but had since had a falling out. Police declined to reveal the name of the suspect to The Phuket News.
“We will contact the security company head office in Phuket Town and have the suspect brought in for questioning,” Lt Thanom said.
