Played in front of several hundred die-hard football fans, the friendly match follows several weeks of idleness for the two clubs, who've been on break with many other Thai pro clubs to accommodate World Cup qualifiers and the Southeast Asian Games, taking place in Singapore.
The Surat FC Roosters currently sit in 8th place of 10 teams in the Thai Division 2 (AIS League) Southern region league, while Phuket are in 5th place of the Thai Division 1, a second-tier national league.
Phuket FC played a B-team, with at least two new try outs (including a tall defender from Turkey and a swift right-wing from Japan). But despite a few ambitious crosses, Phuket strikers saw no shots, never mind on target, as Surat's wall proved to be impregnable.
Phuket fielded a more familiar A-squad in the second half, and put much pressure on Surathani’s right backs, through swift charges by Andres on the left touchline.
But it was Surat to break the ice with a strike by Amarin Jaiseusutt, with Phuket FC’s Pipat scoring the equalizer to save his side some grace.
Phuket FC have another friendly scheduled at home this Friday, June 12, but against a much stronger opponent from the Thai Premier League, Thai Port FC. Kick off will be at 7pm.
The Yamaha League One 2015 season resumes with Fixture 14 (of 38 total) on June 20, with Phuket on the road to Ayuthaya FC, who are currently dead last.
