Mr Wyler, who has lived in Southeast Asia for almost 17 years and been a Rotarian for 15 years, was elected to the position on July 1.
Before retiring to Phuket, Mr Wyler worked extensive in the power cable business in Europe and Asia. He is a former colonel in the Swiss Air Force.
He has set several goals for the club in the coming year, including attracting more women members and encouraging more fellowship as well as continuing to support the club’s projects, such the Ban Ya learning centre and an extensive scholarship programme for young Thais affected by the tsunami.
“Becoming president of a Rotary club is always a special privilege and honour,” Mr Wyler said. “Serving the community that most Rotarians have benefitted from and giving something back to that community is the least we can do.”
Mr Wyler also pointed out that while the Patong Rotary chapter is only English-speaking club on Phuket, it also has several Thai members. RCoPB has 32 members, representing 14 nationalities.
Mr Wyler succeeds Brad Kenny as president.
