Phuket reservoirs to get parkland makeover
PHUKET: Phuket OrBorJor is planning to develop Bang Wad and Bang Niew Dam reservoirs into new recreational parkland areas.

A public meeting to discuss ideas for the project was held on Monday, allowing locals to voice opinions on the proposal.
Chief Administrator of Phuket OrBorJor Manop Leelasutanon said Bang Wad and Bang Niew Dam reservoirs, which are important water catchment areas for Phuket, are suitable to develop into community recreation areas, and can also provide opportunities for eco-tourism.
Phuket OrBorJor has assigned Phisut Technology Co Ltd to design the parkland areas.
Phisut’s Managing Director of Technology, Songkrit Sappakit, said the master plan will comprise of four parts for each reservoir.
These will include service area, including parking space and toilet facilities; dedicated recreation area; and forest and adventure area, showcasing native flora.
In addition, the existing Royal Irrigation Officer’s residence at Bang Wad will be transformed into a 200 seat conference hall.
The project will cost an estimated B600 million, with planning and design work expected to be completed by December.
