The statement was made at a press conference held by Phuket Governor, Nisit Jansomwong and the President of the Muang Phuket Administration Organization yesterday (February 18).
“Phuket is a very popular holiday destination among Chinese people. We can see this from the number of planes landing in Phuket each day which are all full of Chinese passengers. And so far, they are the number one tourist coming to the island.
“This event will be a good opportunity to show Chinese tourists about our local Chinese culture too,” said the Governor.
Meanwhile, Mr Paiboon Upatising said that this is the fifth year of the celebration and it will be the greatest and most exciting one yet. But the celebration is not only about entertainment but many enjoyable things.
“This year is the ʻYear of the Goat̕ which represents the prosperous family.
“The event will tighten the long running good relationship between Thailand and China and we will welcome the Thai-Chinese blooded people as family members.”
As for the highlights of the event, he said, it is a show entitled “Splendid” which will feature the Chinese National Acrobatic Troupe who currently hold the Guinness World Record for the highest jumps through hoops recorded at 3.12 metres in 2009.
Around the event there will be many activities to enjoy such as the Gate of Wealth, and a Prosperous Road, where all visitors who walking along the path, decorated with beautiful Chinese lanterns, will be blessed.
There will also be a booth featuring HM the King's works and the history about his visit to Phuket.
The famous Thai music band, “GETSUNOVA” will also be performing.
The event starts at 5pm onwards at Sanam Chai.
In addition to the Chinese New Year celebrations, the Old Phuket Town Festival is going to be held from February 26-28 at Queen Sirikit 72 years Chalearmprakiet Park with parades and lots of performances lined up.
