The Red Shirts have organised a rally this afternoon in Nai Yang Beach at 3pm, to express their views and gain more supporters on the island.
Phuket’s Yellow Shirt supporters are meeting at Saphan Hin this afternoon, before going to Nai Yang to join the protest.
There is a heavy police presence in the Nai Yang area from officers in Phuket’s Region 8 police force.
Police are currently letting people who are not involved in the event through the blockade to get to Nai Yang Beach, but are searching vehicles for weapons first.
Last night around 50 local people tried to blockade the same road to prevent Red Shirt supporters setting up a stage for their rally. There were no reports of violence.
