Staff at Vachira Hospital confirmed to The Phuket News last week that although the number of patients admitted for flu or dengue so far this year is on the rise, the number is “no more than usual” for this time of year.

While the world is focused on outbreaks of Mers (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome), local health authorities are taking measures to contain any outbreaks of that kind on the island – but are they doing enough to help stop the spread of dengue, which affects thousands of people on the island each year?

Many campaigns are held each year to raise awareness about dengue among Thais, but is enough being done to warn foreigners?

To this, The Phuket News asks readers in our latest poll: “Do you think the government does enough to warn foreigners about dengue?”

Replies available are:

  • Yes, foreigners are given ample warning about dengue
  • Yes, but there is room for improvement
  • Not really, I see some effort to warn foreigners, but not enough
  • No, foreigners receive little to no warning about dengue
  • Dengue? What’s dengue?
