The girl, Wadsana “Mew” Lertsongkarm, was stabbed multiple times as she and her two-year-old nephew walked from the Tesco-Lotus Express minimart in Soi Tangkul to their home nearby at about 1am.
Pol Lt Col Prawit Engchuan told The Phuket News, “The killer used an 11-inch knife to stab her in the back. Her nephew is safe but she died on the way to hospital.”
A witness has confirmed that the murderer was the same man as was seen on security camera footage from the minimart, walking closely around Ms Wadsana in the minimart, as if inspecting her.
An investigator added, “In the Tesco-Lotus the criminal took a good close look at her. As she walked home – which is only 30 meters from the shop – he stopped her and tried to snatch the gold necklace she was wearing.
“She fought back and he could not get the gold from her; it dropped on the ground. A witness saw what was happening and tried to intervene, but the criminal fought him off and escaped on his motorbike.”
“The man is about 165-170 cm tall. He was wearing a white shirt and black short pants.” Col Prawit said. “If anyone recognises him, please call me at 081-415-8668.”
