Mr Naumann passed away on Monday night (Feb 15). He was 73.
His daughter, Anette Jimenez Höchstetter, who now serves as the Honorary Consul for Germany in Phuket, announced late last night, “Dear Family, Friends, and Colleagues, It is with great sadness, that the Family of Dirk Naumann announces his passing on Monday, 15th February, 2016.”
The funeral will be held at Anuphas Kritsadaram Temple on Wichit Songkram Rd in Kathu. (See map here.)
Services will be held from today (Feb 17) through next Tuesday (Feb 23.)
The cremation will take place on Tuesday (Feb 23), from about noon to 1pm.
“Dirk Naumann was very specific in his request that guests please not bring flowers or wreaths to his farewell,” said the announcement issued by Mr Naumann’s family.
“He asked that anyone who wishes to donate, please be so kind as to bring something useful, that will be donated to the temple in his and the giver’s name.”
A resident of Thailand for more than 40 years, Mr Naumann moved to Phuket in 2003.
For the next decade, he strove for a better Phuket in many ways, including raising time and again with the island’s top officials serious issues that threatened – and continue to threaten – the island’s sustainable future. Among his top concerns were public transport, pollution and water quality at the beaches.
In 2013, Mr Naumann announced he would retire from the position as German Honorary Consul.
Ms Jimenez Höchstetter, who was born in Bangkok, was sworn in as the new German Honorary Consul by German Ambassador to Thailand Rolf Schulze the next year.
