The drill will take place on June 25 and 26 in Tambon Srisoonthorn in Thalang District with the first day dedicated to briefings and the second day to on-the-ground practice, particularly of evacuation of residents and the setting up of temporary accommodation of people made homeless by an earthquake.
This year the drill takes has more than usual significance, following a series of earthquakes that rattled the island earlier this month.
The director of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Centre of Phuket, Acting Sub Lt Trakul Totham said that the exercise was conducted annually in order to improve information management and the direction and coordination system in a disaster situation.
The main aim is to “overcome limits and raise the readiness of relevant staff so that they can handle the aftermath of a disaster efficiently,” he said.
