“The 7-month-old Korean baby and a 30-year-old Thai woman were admitted to hospital in Phuket on Thursday night (June 25) due to high fever,” said Dr Kajonsak Kaewjamras, chief of the Phuket Provincial Health Office (PPHO).

“In accordance with our prescribed preventative measures, the two were separated, with one taken to Vachira Hospital and the other to the PPAO hospital, and kept in isolation.

“They have both been tested for the Mers virus, and both tested negative,” he confirmed to The Phuket News today (June 27).

“However, they are still in the hospital and hospital staff are monitoring their condition closely. They will be tested again if needed.”

The PPHO has so far quarantined six people for Mers. All have tested negative.

“So far Phuket has had no confirmed reports of Mers, but we are continuing to keep a look out for anyone persons suspected of having the virus,” said Dr Kajonsak.
