Phuket man reeking of alcohol survives after smashing car into electric pole

PHUKET: Police believe that the Phuket man who was speeding before smashing his car into an electric pole in Koh Kaew early this morning was under the influence of alcohol.

At about 2.30am this morning rescue workers sfreed Mr Nuttawut Rattanawichai from a totaled, black Honda Civic with Phuket plates, and rushed the man to Vachira Phuket Hospital.

Moments earlier, the man had lost control of his car after driving at a high speed on Thepkrasattri Rd, about 100 meters north of the Bang Koo intersection.

The accident was witnessed and reported by a Cherng Thalay police officer, Lance Corporal Anupong Pattanasombat , who had been in his own car and following the said vehicle prior to it wrecking. 

“When the driver was rescued from the car, there was a strong smell of alcohol, so we will be checking on him soon,” confirmed Lan Cop Anupong.
