Lt Suporn Muangkhai of the Thalang Police was notified at 8am today by staff at the Kusoldharm rescue foundation station in Baan Muang Mai that a passenger had died on a Bangkok-Phuket bus.
Police arrived at the area to find a bus parked on the side of the road in front of the Muang Mai police box. On the left-side of the bus was the body of a man sitting alone in a seat. Police later named him as 36-year-old Piyawit Supanam from Wichit.
Lt Suporn said, “The man had no pulse and we found no signs of a struggle or assault on his body. He had been dead for at least two hours.
“We discovered that Mr Piyawat boarded the bus in Bangkok and was travelling to Phuket. The bus arrived on the island this morning and stopped at Baan Muang Mai to let some passengers off. Staff thought Mr Piyawat, who was sitting alone, was sleeping so they tapped him on his shoulder to let him know the bus has stopped but Mr Piyawat did not respond.
“They checked his pulse then notified rescue workers” he said.
Police believe the man died of a heart attack or was suffering from some health issue.
The body was taken to Thalang Hospital for doctors to confirm the time and true cause of death.
