The man was caught after police saw him drop a bag of the drug from the car he was sitting in while parked on Phang Nga Rd in Phuket Town.

The announcement of the arrest came at press conference held today (July 8) by Vice Governor Chokdee Armornwat and Cpt Aumpon Samorthai of the Border Patrol Police 425 at the Tsunami Meeting Room of the Phuket Provincial Narcotics Control Management Center.

Cpt Aumpon said that police received a tip-off that a drug deal was to take place close to the car park of the Metropole Hotel.

On July 6, Lt Teerasak Narasri was sent out to observe the area, and at around 11am he noticed an Isuzu vehicle parked on Phang Nga Rd. The car door opened and a bag was dropped from it,” he said.

He went to check the bag and found that it contained crystal meth. He then opened the car door and found Pokim Saelim, 48, sitting inside.

When Lt Teerasak searched the vehicle he found a further five bags of crystal meth hidden inside a holdall. In total the drugs weighed 1.14kg,” he added.

Cpt Aumpon went on to explain that Pokim told police that he bought the drugs from a man named Mr Chai and that he would order the drugs by telephone.

This is the second time he has bought drugs from Mr Chai, he previously bought 1.5kg of crystal meth from Mr Chai for B45,000,” he said.

Pokim has been charged with possession of a Category 1 drug with intent to sell.

ematt, sorry I can't bring myself to assimilate with corruption & / or stupidity just because I'm in country, although from your comment it doesn't appear to be an issue for you. There goes Joe 12 spewing utter nonsense again. Comments are overwhelmingly opinion's in response to a news story and as such inherently cannot be classified as wrong, just because you don't agree with, or more precisely, don't understand another person's opinion that is not in agreeance with yours, doesn't make it wrong etc. May I also suggest you pick up a dictionary and familiarize yourself with what a FACT is again.

C'mon Joe12, your tone of superiority is becoming all too familiar in your retorts to Kurt. He has a right to air his opinion no matter the level of his English literary skills- or your constant negative judgements of it.

ematt | 11 July 2016 - 18:11:01

I'm with Joe12 on this one. Too many posters here waste everyone's time bashing the Thai police, insulting Thai people and criticising Thai culture. Why do they even live here? i wish they would just go back to whatever country they came from. Jeesh...

The Phuket News

Joe12 | 11 July 2016 - 16:06:31 assist you, instead of being negative all the time with waffling comments, I would suggest - as a start - try reading editorial opinions on here. They are either factual or opinions in which the editor is trying to persuade readers to specific points-of-view. Editorials that are just opinions would not be highly persuasive, because they lack factual substance. Then brainstorm. Do you think the editorial was persuasive in its claims? Why or why not? Was it supported by sufficient evidence if not, consider them yourself. What else could have been considered? In other words, think why certain things happens or don't happen then formulate factual responses. There is no point in waffling on about nothing in response.

I doubt if the above will help, because someone has suggested you write succinctly, but that didn't work.

Kurt...Your comment could equally apply to you and other commentators.

I have explained previously, you and others make comments that are wrong, contain innuendo, or are just plain incomprehensible or bizarre with no foundation, relevance or meaning whatsoever. Mostly they are disparaging, derogatory and disrespectful to the Thai people and it's nation.

Therefore, if you consider you have a right to do that, depending on your remarks, I reserve the right to correct you in no uncertain terms.

Well, Rorii, now you know it!
You are not the sharpest knife in the drawer ( + other personal sayings in the past).
But I join you, as I am called..'not the brightest bulb' and a 'idiot', etc.

There are other thai newspapers which not allow commenters to become uncivilisated ( calling names, etc) to other people.
Perhaps The PhuketNews can adopt same policy?
Specially when it concerns a person who not write his own comment, but just find pleasure in insulting publicly other readers.
Comments should be written decently, even by people who live in their own little world and actually say that they can't understand a comment of a other person.

The Phuket News

Joe12 | 10 July 2016 - 21:32:10 I keep saying... its just plain common anyone but you and Kurt. Just read it. I am aware that you are not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Rorii | 10 July 2016 - 18:51:13

Joe12, obvious to many, but not obvious to you, once again, lost in your own little world, you seen to misinterpret others comment simply to fit into your world, so small and abstract as it is.

The Phuket News

Joe12 | 09 July 2016 - 17:12:36

Rorii...don't know what you rambling on about. Kurt asked ..."why is Mr Chai not found yet." The answer was pretty obvious.

The Phuket News

Rorii | 09 July 2016 - 15:32:19

Joe12, "Cpt Aumpon went on to explain that Pokim told police that he bought the drugs from a man named Mr Chai and that he would order the drugs by telephone." So going by the information available, they have Mr Chai's number, even Thailand possess the technology to track mobile phones, then when close by, to the detected location, ring the bloody number, geez mate, someone really is a dill. Common sense, yep. And let's not forget, recently ALL mobiles had to be registered, or be disconnected, though that idea does have some flaws. The problem now is, the people have now told the world they have Mr Chai's number.
