The old lifeguard tower at Kata Noi Beach was pulled down late last year after the pillars broke and lifeguards could no longer use the tower as it was too dangerous. (See story here.)
The tear-down, however, left lifeguards at Kata Noi with no place to safely store their equipment.
“We will have to stop the construction of the new tower because we have received many complaints about it,” said Watcharin Patomwatthanapong, Acting Chief of the Phuket Provincial Administration Organisation (PPAO).
The PPAO last year provided B1.6 million to repair lifeguard towers at Kata Noi, Karon and Surin beaches.
“It will take about a month to build the new tower,” Mr Watcharin said. “As for the location, there’s not much we can do about it. The tower is for the public benefit, and that’s where the public said they wanted it.”
