Phuket hotels to mark Earth Hour on Saturday
PHUKET: Organised by World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Earth Hour began in 2007 as a way for individuals to show how simple steps can make a significant impact on reducing greenhouse gases and addressing climate change.

The event has turned into a movement. More than 5,200 cities and towns in 135 countries worldwide switched off their lights for Earth Hour 2011 alone. This year’s Earth Hour will be marked on Saturday, March 31, from 8.30pm-9.30pm.
Here are some of the hotels marking the occasion:
At the Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa Phuket, they are turning off exterior signage lighting, dimming or turning off non-essential interior lighting, using candlelight in appropriate public areas , and informing guests about Earth Hour observances when they check in.
They have invited guests to participate by turning off all non-essential lights and electrical devices in their room from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. They are offering Happy Earth Hour from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at Prego Moon Deck featuring 2-4-1 Earth Hour Organic Cocktails at B350++ per cocktail.
You can also join their Earth Hour candle lit dinner at Prego by the Beach from 6pm featuring a four-course Italian set menu from Chef Alessandro with live music, earth hour inspired dishes and organic wines.

Out at sister Starwood property The Naka Island, Phuket, as well as also asking guests to turn off all non-essential lights and electrical devices in villas from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on Saturday night, they are also holding a special Earth Hour-themed “Candlelit” international dinner buffet at My Grill from 6pm to 10.30pm, showcasing live music, flaming fire show, Thai boxing demonstration, and lucky draws.

Meanwhile, Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket is marking the occasion by inviting resort guests and Phuket residents to gather at a specially created ‘Earth Hour – Long Table Evening’ event, featuring a four-course wine dinner set on a 10-metre-long dining table situated at Casuarina restaurant’s beachfront.
Their chefs will prepare dishes using carefully chosen, locally grown, seasonal and/or organic ingredients. Additional activities, including the release of paper larnterns, will be held on Bang Tao beach afterward.

Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa plans to mark Earth Hour 2012 by holding a candlelight check-in at their Andaman Lobby from 8.30pm-9.30pm; there will be a candlelight dinner at Ocean Beach Club from 7pm-9.30pm; Kidz Paradise Earth Hour activities with little guests from 2pm-4pm; Earth Hour invitation letter to all guest rooms inviting them to switch off their lights; switching off the lights from 8.30pm-9.30pm at their staff common area and dormitory.
