Pol Capt Weerachart Mora and Kusoldharm Rescue Foundation volunteers arrived on the scene to find a dark grey Honda wrapped around the light pole on the southbound carriageway just 30 metres from the intersection.

It took them 30 minutes to extricate the body of 46-year-old Ms Nicha from the wreckage.

A witness, Suriya Primmin, told police he saw the car go out of control and hit the central reservation before crashing into the pole.

Police, who also found luggage in the car, said they believe Ms Nicha may have fallen asleep at the wheel after a long journey.

Ms Nicha joined the hospital staff in 2006 as business development and international marketing planner, tasked with putting together the hospital’s marketing strategy for overseas and expat markets, an essential part of its ‘medical tourism’ drive.

Last year she was appointed Marketing Division Manager of the hospital.
