Gov Chamroen held a meeting yesterday (Mar 30) at Provincial Hall with officials and announced that Phuket has received a permit which will allow the island to launch a Phuket Brand as a symbol identifying the province's quality products and services to help promote development of local products and tourism.
Gov Chamroen authorised the use of the Phuket Brand logo to 17 selected operators and to 32 products and services across the island.
Products and services qualified to bear the Phuket Brand have been selected by a management committee and broken down into five categories namely; health services, restaurants, public car services, community products, and agricultural produce.
The campaign, launched by the Phuket Office of Internal Trade, aims to help boost confidence among tourists in products and service standards as well as safety and fairness. In addition, local businesses are encouraged to further develop their products and services.
Chief of Phuket Trading Office Decha Petchwong said on March 11 that some products sold in Phuket that truly represent the island have no logo to guarantee its quality, so the governor wanted all to have a logo.
The idea is to help push for higher prices and promote clean food and good tastes from the island to tourists.
The Phuket Office of Internal Trade insisted all businesses across the island that has no logo can request to feature the Phuket Brand logo, but its products be must follow the standards set out by the committee, mainly to provide benefit to consumers and prevent poor quality product going on the market.
