Phuket Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada will transfer out of Phuket to become Governor of Nakhon Sri Thammarat on October 1.
Phuket Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada will transfer out of Phuket to become Governor of Nakhon Sri Thammarat on October 1.

Prime Minister’s Office Spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd revealed the news at a meeting with provincial governors in Bangkok today, reported the National News Bureau of Thailand (NNT) in a public notice posted today. (See here.)

The official who will take up the post of Governor of Phuket to replace Mr Chamroen has yet to be announced.

The date October 1 marks the beginning of the Thai government budget year and is the usual annual date for the transfer of officials around the country.

As is customary with the public notice announcing regular annual transfers, no reason was given for Gov Chamroen being transferred to another province.

Gov Chamroen was installed Governor of Phuket on October 1 last year after serving as Vice Governor of Nakhon Pathom province, on the outskirts of Bangkok, for one year.

Before his posting to Nakhon Pathom, Gov Chamroen was one of the key figures in the dismantling of the Phuket taxi mafia in 2014 during his term as Phuket Vice Governor from 2012-2014.

As thai are family and tribe thinking first, Thai Government should never make a Phuket native Governor.
What Phuket needs is a Governor who was not born and raised on Phuket, not has family or influential friends on Phuket.
A complete 'outsider' without strings can do a better job.

I think both Asterix and bigasail are correct. One thing is for sure is that the average Thai in the street pays the highest price for this corrupt government process, as nothing meaningful ever gets accomplished, and budgets intended to improve things just get pilfered. It is a chronically broken system that achieves nothing. Can anybody name one meaningful contribution that any Thai official has made?

swerve: You are right!
I forgot that in Thailand never one get sacked, just transferred or put on inactive duty.

Is a transfer from Phuket to Nakhon Sri Thammarat a promotion or a demotion?

This governor was one of the key figures in 2014 about dismantling the Phuket taxi mafia?
Now, 2 years later, what has been dismantled or changed for the better?
Now there are police officers driving taxi in their free time, and try not to use the meter.( put a face towel over the meter)
Try to flag down on Chaofa roads a taxi with the red sign 'FREE' on.
They not stop, just race empty back to airport.
Taxi fares are still higher than in New York, or just Bangkok.

@bigasail33
......Or it may push corrupt civil servants to grab as much as they can as they will know that they will stay on short period only.
Anyway, it is better to have a Governor staying at least several years to follow in a better way all longterm projects.

If you move them every year the chance to get corrupt is not as big or long enough!Logic?! Horst

No loss for Phuket, as there was no gain while he was here. Jeez, if Khun Chamroen was one of the key figures in the dismantling of the Phuket taxi mafia in 2014, he sure didn't do anything to ensure the vermin were kept in check while he was Governor. Taxi mafia is just as entrenched here as ever.

Kurt: What are you babbling about AGAIN? The governor was transferred NOT sacked.

Can not say that he did a lot of good job for Phuket
1. he chased the tourists away by clearing the beaches and not come with a solution for phuket people and tourits
2. Taxi's not a lot changed, drive with meter but not want to use it
3. Promessed a lot but not moved a lot
Hopefully the next one is doing his duties better
