During his confidence-boosting visit, the governor explained, “During the Songkran Festival large numbers of tourists pour into the island, so we have to make sure about the safety measures on boats.

“We came to visit this pier because it is one of the biggest in Phuket. We are checking boats, crew and safety equipment on board such as life vests and fire extinguishers.

“We are also checking the registered capacities of boats against the number of passengers on board, along with boat and skipper licenses.

“We found that the boats we inspected all have proper communication systems for emergencies, the life vests are new and safe, and the crew are well trained.

“We are confident that the hundreds of tourists will be safe on their trips.”
