Lt Col Panya Chaichana from the Marine Police was alert about a collision between the Lamina ketch and Jor Pornpatsini squid fishing vessel at 3pm yesterday. It was reported the collision happened one nautical mile from Yanui Beach.

It was reported the Jor Pornpatsini had received damage to its side and was starting to sink.

A Marine Police rescue boat was dispatched out to sea and helped save the fishing boat from sinking before taking it to Sang Aroon fishing pier in Muang district. All seven fishermen were rescued.

The Jor Pornpatsini is operated by Job Phatrakchom and was carrying two Thai and Five Myanmar fishing crew. The fishing boat reportedly left the Port In Port Out centre on December 17 at 3 pm and had all the required paperwork relating to fishing laws and regulations.

Lt Col Panya explained that around 2:20pm while Jor Pornpatsini was anchored at Latitute 7 degree 47.2403 North and Longitute 98 degree 16.9676 East about 1.1 nautical mile from Yanui beach, a sail boat had slammed into the right side it.

The Lamina is an Indonesian registered ketch operated by French Capt Dominique Gerardin. It was carrying 18 crew on board.

Capt Dominique contacted the Third Area Thailand Maritime Enforcement Coordinating Centre for help to save the sinking boat. The sail boat has no damage and on injuries were reported.

“The Lamina owner admitted to being responsible for the collision and will pay for any damage Jor Pornpatsini sustained as a result,” said Lt Col Panya.
