Driver Noppharat Thongun, 29, told police that he was heading from Kathu toward the Sam Kong Intersection at 6:30am when the truck slid on the wet Phra Phuket Keaw Rd.

The truck struck – and broke – a roadside power pole then careened onto the far side of the median, where it came to rest on its side in the middle of the westbound lanes.

Mr Noppharat his co-worker passenger Saithan Sukmit, 28, were both taken to Bangkok Hospital Phuket for treatment of minor injuries.

An officer from the Thung Thong Police told The Phuket News, “Luckily, they did not crash into anyone. They were not drunk, it was just an accident caused by slippery road.”

However, an officer from the Phuket Provincial Electricity Authority confirmed that the cost of replacing the power pole will have to be covered.

“Right now, our staff is checking the damage to the pole and and interruptions to power supply,” he said.

“We don’t know how much the cost of damage is at this stage. We have yet to fully assess the situation.”
