At 2pm, Phuket City police were called to investigate a suspicious item spotted in the car park of the Royal Phuket City Hotel in Phang Nga Rd, Talad Yai.

The police arrived at the car park together with the EOD unit and sealed off the area. The EOD were shown a black object with a light flashing lying on the ground.

When examining the device more closely they found that it was a GPS device with its batteries and magnet covered with duct tape.

Police believe that the device had been taped underneath a car or truck which had been parked in the car park and had fallen off when the vehicle was moved.

Police will investigate to find out where it came from.
