When police arrived at the burning house, at the Watchara housing estate, they found Mr Port's wife Naruthai, screaming for help at the front window.
She was rescued and was taken to Krabihospital with severe burns, but inside, police found the bodies of Mr Port, 72, and his stepson, Worraphat Sukkaew.
Police believe the fire was started by arson, based on evidence at the scene. They found a 16kg gas cylinder with the valve open, and the rubber tube cut, allowing the gas to escape. Two motorbikes were found with the seats open, the petrol tank lids removed and towels soaked with fuel. Fortunately, the bikes were able to be taken away safely and did not explode.
The couple's neighbour, Boonsri Ubon, said Mr and Mrs Port worked as real estate agents, and also ran a hotel in Ao Nang. Around 2am, Mrs Naruthai started screaming for help that the house was on fire, and asked Mrs Boonsri to call the police.
