Tha Chat Chai police and rescuers arrived at Baan Koh En area where the crumpled Toyota pickup lay upside-down in front of the gas station.

Two people, one dead, were lying in the deep culvert next to the road.

Rescuers took the driver, Leng Jampatong, 53, who is the owner of an ice block wholesale business in the Sakoo area, and the body of Tawatchai Sermras, 31, to Thalang hospital. Mr Leng was later transfer to Vachira for further treatment.

Witnesses said the truck was coming from Nai Yang at high speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle at the twisting road, driving it into the canal.

It was being driven at such speed that it bounced out of the culvert again, spilling the occupants and landing upside-down in front of the gas station.

This is the second death in the Seven Days of Danger road and sea safety campaign which started yesterday (December 25).
