Two bombs exploded at 8pm on Sunday (February 1) between the BTS Siam Station and Siam Paragon. No one was hurt.

Two men have been partially identified and warrants for their arrests have been issued.

Asked about the rumour yesterday (February 5), Provincial Police Commander Maj Gen Patchara Boonyasit said, “Phuket is a tourist destination, so stability and security are a priority here.

“Police are aware of the dangers and constantly work to keep the city free of crime. Officers are monitoring every square inch for any suspicious activity, from the parking lots of local malls all the way to the prison parking lot.

“No terrorists will escape our attention. Police are ready and equipped to handle any situation.

“I want to reassure residents that they have no need to worry about the speculation that the bombing suspects are hiding here.

“Right now it is just a rumour and we have patrol units sweeping the city. They are also in regular contact with village leaders who are keeping an eye out for anything suspicious,” Gen Patchara said.
