The local man who found the body said he was out fishing when he noticed something odd among the mangroves and shone his flashlight on it. “I freaked out when I saw it was a body, and called the police,” he said.

Investigators led by Pol Maj Santi Prakorbkarn of Tha Chat Chai police station examined the body of the man, whom they estiamted to be between 25 and 30 years old, about 160cm tall and wearing a black T-shirt and shorts.

They found that he had been stabbed twice, in the chest and neck. There was no ID on the body.

They theorised that he might have been a crew member from a fishing boat based in Phuket or Phang Nga and had floated ashore after being murdered and thrown overboard. They estimated that he had been dead about 24 hours.

The body was taken to Thalang Hospital and police in Takua Tung have been notified in case there have been reports there of anyone going missing recently.
