No persons were harmed in the accident, which occurred in front of the “Banchalong School”, confirmed police.
Workers took about three hours to clear the road by using a crane before traffic flow returned to normal, said Capt Woradet Chuguea of the Chalong Police.
“Officers from the Chalong Police and the Wichit Police joined efforts to direct traffic around the accident,” he said.
The truck driver, 46-year-old Somboon Puangnoon, told police he was delivering the concrete slabs, which weighed about 25 tons, from a company in Thalang to a site in Soi Yod Sanae 2.
“When I arrived at the bend, I could feel the truck leaning to the left. I told my passenger to check and he saw that the concrete sheets had nearly slid off the back of the truck.
“I asked my passenger to get out of the vehicle and tell motorists to move away from the vehicle because I was afraid that the concrete sheets might fall down onto them.
“After the vehicles were clear, the concrete sheets fell down. The slabs hit the guardrail. Luckily, no one was hurt,” he said.
Chalong Mayor Samran Jindapon noted, “This accident happened because more weight was loaded onto one side.
“Luckily, no one was injured. I will use this accident as an example to educate others in order to prevent the same thing from happening in the future,” he added.
