Work will begin on the planned underpass at the Thainaan intersection, outside Central Festival, in June this year, following approval from central Government.

The Economic Team of the Pheu Thai Party announced the approval during a meeting at the Phuket Community Hall on January 3.

The underpass, with a budget of B600 million, will be the biggest roading project in the southern Thailand in 2012.

The underpass will be around 600 metres in length, with three lanes, starting from Chalermprakiat Ror 9 Rd (Central) to Vichit Songkram School.
Phuket Highway Department Deputy Chief Sathaporn Sornchana said he expected the project to be completed within two years.

Meanwhile, the B700 million underpass/overpass planned for the Samkong interesection (outside Tesco Lotus) has been postponed. However the project will be considered for the 2013 budget in October this year.
