Shop owner Raviroj Chaitawatwiboon, 27 from Nong Khai in Thailand’s northeast, was arrested at his shop on Rath-U-Thit 200 Pi Rd in Patong yesterday afternoon, following a raid by officials.
Around 1,000 pirated T-shirts, 640 wallets and 245 caps were seized by police, following a tip-off. It is understood other shopowners in the area were aware of the raid, and had hidden pirated goods.
Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD) sub-division 4 commander Pol Col Pratya Prasarnsuk told media at a press conference yesterday that the ECD and the Department of Intellectual Property would continue to crack down on pirated products, especially in Patong and Karon, where there were many shops selling fake goods.
“I want the shop owners to stop selling and buying pirated products because it is illegal, and it is unfair to those who created the brand,” he said.
The items, along with 80,000 others seized from around Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi, Chumporn, Ranong, Surat Thani and Nakhon Sri Thammarat, would be destroyed this afternoon at the Saphan Hin incinerator.
