According to this announcement on the National News Bureau of Thailand website,
"... the reason [for the request] is because December 10 is a public holiday and December 12 and 13 are weekend holidays so the only working day between those holidays is December 11.
Businesses are therefore asked to provide a holiday on December 11 to their employees to promote the BIKE FOR DAD activity and tourism and to stimulate the economy.
It is also to provide a long holiday for the workers so that they can visit their families.
