The sensation of having a ball of clay in one’s hands is a tactile experience, a moment full of potential, perhaps even sensual – remember Ghost? As it moves, changes, reshapes and reforms, there are no boundaries, no right, no wrong, just creative freedom.
Fling those self-imposed pressures of “I’m not creative” to the side, grab a lump of clay and just hold it. Remember those moments as a kid, sitting in a muddy puddle creating little people, houses and magical lands made of mud.
Allow your instinct for play to return and suddenly, sitting before you will be something wonderful. Probably not perfect. Not finished. But that’s the real joy, there’s always more clay, more opportunities to return to the mud puddle and continue the “play”.
