In total, 74 per cent of all people who took part in the poll answered the question “Do you mind MSG in your food?” with a resounding “No”.

A total of 38% of respondents voted “MSG is a killer – it should not be added to any food.”

A further 36% said, “Any processed food additives can’t be good for you, so it’s best just to say ‘No, thanks’.”

Only 10% of respondents voted “MSG is safe as a food additive, but should be consumed in only very small amounts”, while only 8% gave the taste-enhancer the thumbs-up, saying, “There’s nothing wrong with adding MSG to improve the taste of food. It does not cause any health issues. Go for it!”

Not voting one way or the other, 8% of respondents in the poll voted, “I really don’t care whether MSG is in my food or not.”
