The large flaming meteor was seen streaking across northern Bangkok about 8:40am, leaving a trail of smoke, with sightings also reported as far as Korat and Kanchanaburi.

In its statement, the Narit said the meteor fell at more than 75,600 kilometres per hour and was brightest at 29.3km above the ground.

The institute said it was the largest asteroid to enter the Earth's atmosphere this year. It's also likely some remnants of the falling star remain in Kanchanaburi's Sai Yok district where the institute said pieces impacted.
