Lt Surachart Tongyai from the Phuket City Police was notified by local residents at 4:30pm yesterday that the body of a man had been found hanged at Wat Kosit Wihan in Talad Yai.
Police arrived at the scene to find the body of Mr Jarun Nakum, 53, hanging from a concrete beam of the temple’s pavillion.
“There were no traces of assault on Mr Jarun’s body, and we found a bottle of alcohol and wallet close by. We believe he had been dead for about one hour before his body was discovered,” Lt Surachart said.
Mr Jarun’s family told police that he had been suffering from depression for some time.
“He recently had to pawn his car to a friend because he needed money, he has been depressed about this issue,” Lt Surachart added.
Mr Jarun’s body was taken to Vachira Hospital Phuket for doctors to confirm the exact time and cause of death.
