Capt Chatree Choowichein of the Thalang Police received a call from a local resident at 11am yesterday (Sept 20) where it was reported that a man had gone missing after jumping into a pond at Baan Khanan in Thepkrassattri.

Police arrived to the scene with Kusoldharm rescue workers and divers to find a group of residents gathered around the pond.

After half an hour of searching, divers retrieved the body of 39-year-old Samart Marnyaporn from the water. No signs of assault or injury were found on the body, which was checked before being transported to Thalang Hospital.

Capt Chatree said, “Witnesses said that Mr Samart had been drinking with three other men near the pond until they were all drunk. Mr Samart allegedly told his drinking partners that that he wanted to die and then jumped into the water.

“His friends did not pay much attention to him because they thought he was joking, but after he didn’t return for some time they went looking for him and called for help,” he said.

“We are investigating into the death of Mr Samart and questioning his three friends about the incident,” he added.
