Group Director of Human Resources and Trisara Academy Director, Patteera (Mink) Maneesri told The Phuket News that the Food & Beverage Operations and Culinary Preparation internship was launched because this is Montara Hospitality Group’s area of expertise and is aimed at catering to a growing need for skilled employees firstly in Phuket and secondly in southern Thailand.

“The Academy’s intensive 520-hour course provides students with the training and knowledge that they need to succeed in Thailand’s hospitality sector,” she said.

The certificate course in Culinary Preparation will be led by Trisara’s veteran Executive Chef, Chalermchai Prakobkit, who has fortified his own skills in many Michelin star kitchens worldwide, including El Celler de Can Roca, which was awarded the top place in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2013.

The Culinary Preparation course will lay the foundation for students’ culinary skills and knowledge, preparing them for an entry level position in the kitchen.

Khun Mink said “The benefits the intern will get is that after graduating we will help them to create their own portofolio, we will also help them to get a job. However, this is not only for Trisara but for the entire market.

“We will also provide one scholarship for each course.

“We hope our students will be fully prepared to begin rewarding careers in Thailand’s ever growing hospitality industry after completing an internship programme,” she said.

Khun Mink also stated that their main target group is those who would like to change their career but have no choice or chance to do so.

“I have met a lot of waitresses who would like to become involved in the culinary side of the business but they have no chance. Our internships are their chance to grow.

“If they apply for a position with the profile of a waitress they will not get a job.

“This is the whole purpose of the internship,” she said.

The three-month courses are open to Thai nationals only. Students must be aged 18 to 28 years old, have at least a high school degree and possess an average level of English speaking skills.
