Phuket Tourist Police Chief Col Srisak Kampeeraphan led his team of officers to arrested Ruikai Chen, 30, at the Phuket Checkpoint (Tha Chatchai) in Mai Khao at 6:30pm yesterday.

A statement issued by police states that Ruikai was arrested for working as an illegal tour guide and living in Thailand illegally. Police seized from him a tour program and a name list of tourists in his group.

The arrest of Ruikai came as police at stationed at the checkpoint were stopping incoming vehicles to check for anyone breaking the Tourist Act in Phuket.

Unit - 27

Col Srisak explained, “Ruikai came on a bus registered in Nakorn Prathom with a group of 26 Chinese tourists. They came from Phang Nga and were entering Phuket via the chekpoint. When officers stopped the bus Ruikai came forward as the tour leader for the group. Officers asked to see his identification and work permit the latter of which he could not provide.

The police statement also states that Ruikai said that he is a tour leader for the group not a guide so he did not have a guide permit with him.

Ruikai was taken to Tha Chatchai Police Station to be charge with working as an illegal guide and living in Thailand illegally.

bigasail33, Thank you!
Nooo, politics are here much of the time 'self patting' or cloud skating.
But being in politics pays fantastic for a country what not can keep Phuket beaches clean.
( Is the Rawai waterfront already repaired/renewed? )
But back to subject: Why we always read about arrests of illegal workers ?
A foreign illegal worker only can work when a thai employer employs the worker illegal.
As simple is that, right? Why not arrest the employer?
Actually it is the thai employer who 'steals' the jobs ment for thai only by employing illegal foreigners.
It is about law enforcement, not politics.

Good job, number one priority, no crazy drivers on the roads killing people, they're all in jail! Haha get a single Chinese tourists guide, he's probably responsible for loads of deaths!!

The Chinese guy is right.
A tour leader in a bus is not working as a tourist guide.
Unfortunately he remains illegal in Thailand. Sorry guy. Bad luck.
Wonder which thai company employs a illegal Chinese.
That thai company should be fined at least 50,000 thb to 'remember' not to steal away jobs from thai, and not employ illegally illegal foreigners.
Any objections?
