Officers led by Thalang District Chief Veera Kerdsirimongkol raided the camp, in Baan Prusompan in Tambon Thepkrasattri, at 11pm last night (August 24).
The raid followed officers receiving a tip-off that migrant teenagers were taking and selling kratom from a home inside the camp.
Officials arrived at the suspected kratom den and saw one man ran off via the back door.
They then searched the room and found two kilos of kratom leaves, and arrested husband and wife migrant workers from Myanmar, Mr Win Saw, 35, and Ms Khin Myo Nwe, 31.
The couple told officials that they worked on the rubber plantation, but since rubber prices had plunged, they had turned to dealing kratom to supplement their income.
“We needed extra income to support our family in Myanmar,” confessed Mr Win Saw.
“We bought kratom for B1,500 per kilo from a Thai person, then separated the leaves into bundles of 10-15 leaves and sold them for B100 per bundle to teenagers in the work camp.”
Officers also raided the home next door and discovered 44 bundles of kratom leaves weighing 2.2kg hidden under the wood floor in the kitchen.
However, the home owner escaped the arrest.
Mr and Ms Win and Khin were taken to Thalang police station where they were charged with illegal possession of Category 5 drug.
