Thalang Police were notified at 5 p.m. of an accident that occurred on the southbound traffic lane of Thepkrasattri Rd, near the U-turn for Ban Muangmai in Moo 5 of Thalang's Thepkrasattri sub district.
At the scene of the accident, police found a black Toyota Camry parked on the shoulder of the road with a damaged bumper, and smashed front right side, headlight and windshield.
Out in the middle of the road, near the island that separates the two lanes, there was a totaled red and black Honda Wave motorbike.
Police questioned a Mr Ekapong Meekaew, 43, of Phuket, who was named as the driver of the car and who gave report that he had been driving from the airport, heading into town when a man on the motorbike cut in front of him near the u-turn.
Mr Ekapong was going too fast to avoid hitting the man, whose head is thought to have smashed straight into the car's windshield, police said.
Police named the driver of the motorbike as Mr Jittakorn Chujit, 36, of Thalang , and confirmed that he was not wearing a crash helmet.
Despite their best efforts, doctors were unable to save him, citing a heavy loss of blood.
