On June 27, HeadStart commemorated their 5th annual Music and Arts Celebration Day. The event directed by Ms Jackie and Ms Jody, and coordinated by Miki Edouard, brought together students from all key stages, in an explosion of colours and sounds.

Over 1,000 people walked into a land of fairy tales, the theme for this year’s celebration.
The costumes, the sets, the props, the paintings, all designed by students and teachers of HeadStart, transformed the event venue Simon Star into an enchanted storybook.

This year’s celebration was particularly special as Year 7s and Bridging Courses performed as a class for the first time, officially introducing Key Stage 3 to the stage.

This year Ms Jackie wanted to write a show that had a strong message to those who came.
Once Upon a Time is a collection of fables and fairy tales told through Roald Dahl’s Matilda’s point of view. As she recreates these well-known children stories, she discovers that her favourite heroes are victims of their own fate.

They are cheated, tormented, beaten and persecuted by evildoers. After a few close encounters, she decides to fight back.

With her magic powers, she leads her class into a rebellion that will once and for all free them from Ms Trunchbull’s reign of terror. And with that, she changes her story and gets her happy ending.

With the help of acting coach Joel Adams and choreographer Fabienne Mester, this production was HeadStart’s best yet.

Furthermore, the up and coming Creative Arts Department in the school’s new facility to open in August, promises mind-blowing productions in the years to come.
