The Governor visited Rassada Pier with the Head of the Phuket Marine Office, Phuriphat Teerakulpisut, and the Head of the Phuket Provincial Transportation Office,Jaturong Kaewkasi, during the rush hour of several tour operations. Afterwards, they walked around the pier and boarded some of the ferries.

The Governor noticed large amounts of trash in the water and told Mr Phuriphat that the pier area needs to be cleaned more often.

He told members of the media who toured the pier with him, “We are approaching New Year. We must strictly enforce life vest rules for tourists. Phuket is famous with international tourists, so it’s important for us to look after them. The ferry staff must prepare enough life vests and ensure that tourists wear them.

“Plus, Rassada Pier needs to be cleaned more often. I spoke with some tourists from South Africa, and they told me that they come to Phuket every year because they love it. So the pier should be clean and look nice.”

The Governor also visited the taxi and bus service counter, asking how long the prices had been fixed at the pier – and recording video on his smart phone as staff answered.

He got his answer from one of the staff: “These prices were set a long time ago.”
