German man found dead in Phuket hotel room

PHUKET: The body of a 64-year-old German man was found yesterday (May 8) lying on his bed at his hotel in Bang Tao Beach.

At 2:30pm, Cherng Talay investigator Lt Peerasit Noopayan received a call from a staff member at Bang Tao Beach Garden Hotel concerning the body of the guest found on the bed whose name has been withheld.

Police said there was no sign of foul play and that the victim had been dead for at least five hours.

Police found one pack of prescription drugs, Omeprazole (used for reducing stomach acid) on the bed, with one capsule opened. The drug was prescribed to the victim on Thursday (May 7) by Thalang Hospital.

Police theorised that the victim went to hospital on Thursday, so hope to find out more information there.

Police were told that the hotel maid knocked on the door of the victim’s room for routine cleaning but no one answered. The housekeeping supervisor opened the room to check, and found the victim lying stiff on the bed. They then contacted the police.

The body of the victim was taken to Thalang Hospital. Police are speaking with the German embassy about the decease and notifying the victim’s family.
