Four Phuket gamblers arrested in Thalang forest

PHUKET: Four gamblers were arrested in a Thalang forest last night (July 31). They had in their possession B7,300 in cash, B540,000 worth of casino chips and various items used for gambling.

At 10 pm, Thalang police raided a plot of forest behind house number 145 in soi Bang Niewdam in Srisoonthon where many men and women were found to be playing an illegal board game.

All the gamblers tried to escape but police were able to apprehend four of them.

The four were named by police as Pichit Sriprapin, 54, Arnie Pernkhajonkiet, 66, Niyom Iraya, 60, and Ms Bualai Konkaew, 55.

Police seized from the four 124 playing cards, dice, a game board, B7,300 cash and casino chips worth B540,000.

After being questioned by police the four gave up the name of the organiser of the gambling event who police are now looking for, along with the gamblers who escaped.

Pichit, Arnie, Niyom and Ms Bualai were taken to Thalang Police Station and charged with illegal gambling and attempting to flee from police. They are due to appear at Phuket Provincial Court today (August 1).
