Four arrested for armed robbery of Phuket spa

PHUKET: Police yesterday (April 27) arrested four people in connection with a B500,000 armed robbery which took place at a spa on April 5.

The incident saw two suspects, armed with knives and guns, rob the Imperial Spa on Wirathonhyok Rd in Vichit of B500,000 and threaten customers inside the spa not to make any noise.

After looking at CCTV footage from the spa police believed that the robbery was an inside job and have been looking for the suspects since.

At 9:30pm yesterday, Maj General Patchara Boonyasit held a press conference at the Imperial Spa and revealed the arrest of four suspects believed to have been involved in the robbery.

The four were name as Anongnart or Khuwn Siriwattanakul, 46, a massage therapist employed by the spa, her boyfriend Sontaya Thanawut, 33, Chanan or Jojo Sawangwit, 21, (Sontaya's brother) and Pirapon or Phen Sumngan, 22.

During the arrests police seized gold worth B112,500, two crash helmets, one camouflage jacket, two pairs of gloves, two motorcycles and one pistol.

Maj Gen Patchara said that Anongnart assisted the three robbers and gave them information on when to carry out the robbery, which took place on a pay day when there was lots of cash at the spa.

Anongnart at first pretended that she had no involvement in the robbery, but after being questioned by police again confessed and led police to the three men.

The B500,000 stolen was used to buy gold jewellery and also loaned out to people not involved in the crime.

All four now face being charged with armed robbery using getaway vehicles.
