The accident occurred in front of the Accident and Emergency Department of the yet-to-be-built Chalong Hospital (see here) on Chao Fa West Rd at 10:30pm.
Lt Chollada Chokdeesrijan of the Chalong Police arrived at the scene with Ruamjai Foundation rescue workers to find the body of the foreign man, estimated to be 27 to 35 years old, on the road with severe head trauma and a broken neck.
“There was no identification on the victim, but we think he was a foreign tourist, maybe a Muay Thai boxer, judging from his physical appearance,” Lt Chollada said.
“Another motorist, a Thai man, was taken to hospital for his injuries. We are not sure of his condition,” she added.
Nearby was the wreckage of two motorbikes and a bus with damage to its front.
“Witnesses said that the foreign man was driving his motorbike at high speed when he crashed into the motorbike driven by the Thai man,” Lt Chollada said.
“Both vehicles fell onto the road, but the foreigner skid into an oncoming bus on the opposite side of the road. Witnesses said he died instantly, and that he was not wearing a helmet.”
Police are continuing their investigation.
“We are gathering as much information as we can and try to find out more about both the deceased and the victim so we can identify them and notify their families as soon as possible,” Lt Chollada said.
“We will check the license registration of the motorbike the foreign man was riding to see if it were a a rental, which may help identify him,” she added.
Photographs from the scene provided to The Phuket News show that the foreign man had a passage of script tattooed down his left torso.
His body has been taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket Town, where friends or and relatives may be able to identify him.
